Parking

The Princess Theatre encourages people to use the conveniently located secure parking facilities of the Princess Plaza or the Mater Hospital. The Princess Plaza parking is $7.00 after 5pm weekdays and $5.00 all day on Saturday and Sundays. Limited street parking is also available.

Office hours

The Princess Theatre office is open Tuesday to Thursday from 9am to 5pm.

Private viewing of this beautiful vintage venue is be arranged by appointment only. To organise your private viewing contact us with a call or a message and we will arrange a suitable time.

Event hours

Hours of operation are 8am to midnight Friday and Saturday, and 8am to 10pm other days.

Due to Brisbane City Council regulations no amplified noise can be made outside of these hours.

Capacity

The maximum rated capacity of the Princess Theatre is 500 people.

The capacity may be reduced depending on the style of the hire:

Standing (concert style): 500 capacity (includes balcony).
Banquet style: 150
Cocktail party style: 250 (excludes balcony).
Theatre (seated) style: 380 (includes balcony) or 255 (excludes balcony).

The Princess Theatre can also be set up for more intimate gatherings such as theatre in the round, workshops or seminar style. Private functions can have a combination of standing and seating.

Furniture

The Princess Theatre has 200 chairs that can be used by the hirer and 125 fixed chairs in the balcony. These are included in the booking fee. Additional chairs can be hired and brought in at the hirers expense. All other items such as tables, table cloths, theming props, kitchens equipment and the like need to be provided by the hirer or external supplier. In the case of wedding ceremonies a beautiful registry signing table is complimentary with the booking.

Audio visual & lighting

Aisle 6 operates all audio visual and lighting at the Princess Theatre. The use of in-house sound and static lighting is included in the cost of your hire. Additional equipment and production services to suit events ranging from touring theatre groups to opera and conference events is also available through Aisle 6 at a discounted rate to all Princess Theatre hirers. Projection Screen (Cyclorama)

The Princess Theatre has a 9m x 5m projection screen with rear projection capacity so that you can add that visual touch to your event. It is perfect for showing movies, documentaries, personal life stories, photo reels and anything else your creative mind can envisage.

It is important to understand that the hirer is fully responsible for the compliance with Australian and international copyright laws.

Alcohol policy and corkage

Alcohol may be served at private events but your caterer must hold the appropriate liquor licences to ensure the responsible service of alcohol. There is also a small corkage fee that is charged per head at private events. The sale or service of alcohol at public events of any kind is not permitted.

Dress code and behaviour

The Princess Theatre does not have a strict dress code however thongs are not permitted to be worn and appropriate attire and foot wear should aways be considered. In terms of behaviour the Princess Theatre enforces a strict no tolerance policy on drugs, alcohol abuse, smoking, and violence or unacceptable behaviour of any description. Anyone who is in breach of our no tolerance policies will be asked to leave the venue without exception.

Event security

Events that are considered high risk by venue management or venue owners will require the services of a professional security company to ensure the safety of theatre guests.

Wheelchair and disability access

The Princess Theatre was built in 1888 and therefore the wheelchair and disability access to the theatre is limited. There is wheelchair and disability access via the side veranda to the theatre’s auditorium and there is also a side ramp that has been added to give access to a modified disabilities toilet in the down stairs area of the building. However if your event is likely to have persons that require disability access we require you to visually view the access and facilities to ensure that your guests needs are well catered for.

Pricing and security bond

The rates at the Princess Theatre are highly competitive and affordable. We take pride in being a venue that is financially affordable for individuals or groups that are looking for a unique and historical setting for their event. We also seek to support charitable and not for profit organisations that host community focused events.

All bookings at the Princess Theatre require the payment of a security bond. This amount is held and returned to the hirer at the end of the event assuming that no damage is found or additional cleaning of the venue is required.
